Ok, so we’ve seen trees that are more than 2000 years old. It seems like they’re just sitting around in the calm forest all day, but not all days are so calm. The redwoods that have lived this long had to survive fire, flood, and humans. The Chimney Tree is an excellent example. Fire burned out the center, but then the fire ran out of oxygen and burnt out. That’s right, the tree beat the fire. Amazing. The specs: 78 ft, 50 ft around.

Here’s the view skyward from inside the Chimney Tree. They say you can actually have a fire inside safely, hence the name.
