Day 2
One thing I did learn about London was that it’s a strange blend of the really quite old, the still pretty old, older than me, gaudy, and brand spanking new. I don’t know what the purpose of this building is, but it’s probably from the “gaudy” era.


On the other hand is London Tower, which falls into the category of really quite old. Looking at it from this angle, you’re probably wondering where the “tower” is. Well, that’s what we said. Chalk that up as another example of European thinking. On the plus side, this was a good time. The tour guides are funny, and it’s really like walking into a history book.

Here’s the White Tower, built by William the Conqueror in 1066. He was French. That’s right, the first palace in England was built by the French.

The bloody tower houses the torture devices. The English still managed to find themselves quite dignified while possessing a place called the “bloody tower.”

Inside this building are the crown jewels. There’s also the royal spoon and a few other random royal objects that I’ve forgotten now. The three guys in the front are posing for someone else I hope.

We’re in front of tower bridge, not to be confused with London bridge.

If you saw the episode of the Simpsons when they go to London, you’re familiar with this square. I like this picture because you get to see the London Eye, the newest attraction, and Big Ben all in one fell swoop.

I think this scene is about as tourist as it gets.
